Robert Chu, L.Ac., QME

Chinese Medicine Practitioner Robert Chu knows how pain can affect your life. "Pain really affects the quality of your life, and when someone is suffering, they suffer on a mental and spiritual level, as well as on a physical level." says Robert, "When you're feeling better, the whole world is a brighter place to be in." As a young boy growing up in New York City, Robert was introduced to the martial arts and Chinese medicine at an early age. "Most of my teachers were skilled Chinese Medicine doctors, in addition to being great martial artists. My teachers often said, "The high level of any martial art requires you to study herbs and acupuncture to heal."" This seemingly contrasting philosophy drove Robert to engage in a study of herbs and acupuncture and he went to Samra University of Oriental Medicine, the nation's first and foremost school of Oriental Medicine, where he graduated with a Master's of Science degree.

After graduating and sitting for California's licensing examination, Robert continued his studies with other great masters of Acupuncture and Herbology. Robert uses different methods than the average acupuncturist, from using very fine gauge needles to avoid pain, and treating on the opposite side or contralateral limb from the area of pain. He has experienced consistent success in Pain Management. Often, patients see him for back pain, frozen shoulder, neck pain, hip pain, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow and other musculoskeletal problems arising from trauma, orthopedic problems or sports injuries. He also handles Internal medicine problems, such as HIV, cancer, hepatitis, allergies, thyroid disorders, skin problems and gynecological disorders. Robert is also experienced in Occupational Medicine and is a Qualified Medical Evaluator, issued by the Industrial Medical Council.

Robert was the first full-time acupuncturist at the St. Vincent Medical Center - Center for Health and Healing in Los Angeles, CA, where he practiced Chinese Medicine and teaches Tai Chi and Qigong to patients. "Balance is the key to Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine", says the acupuncturist, "with balance, we bring the body back into a state of harmony to have optimal health."
Robert is also a former faculty member at Samra University of Oriental Medicine in Los Angeles where he taught acupuncture, and previously taught Tai Chi and Qigong at Loyola Law School in Downtown Los Angeles.
