How can you sing high notes with the chest and head voice?

I am a tenor or at least the practice of being. I was said for me to hit the high notes is to "mix" my chest voice "with my head voice." That is how I can be able to hitting the high notes. Can someone explain this? Assume good posture, breathing, muscle coordination, etc. etc. is done.

Mixing chest and head voice combines the power of the chest with the float-ing of the head voice, and "forces" the high notes. It is not good for you, and you run the risk of harming your vocal cords if it hurts. It can be done, but be careful
