And although the Greek ideals of physical perfection remain intact, they may have evolved far beyond what the barrel Sandow torso, died at age 58 of a stroke after the lifting of his car blocked by a mud bank, ever could have imagined.
The Anabolic steroids are now a staple in competitive bodybuilding And the use of drugs, which made its way deep into school sports at an alarming early and can be attributed to serious heart defects, is loved and used as widely due to its rapid ability to create poindexters affable in flying armor, tribal-inked behemoths - In less than a year.
Not everyone falls under the spell of quick gains however. Not everyone is there for aesthetics.
Salisbury resident Brent Lake, 33, owner of Rowley based Lake Training Center and the 2008 Yankee Classic Open Men's overall champion, can humbly admit that it is quite natural.
Chronicle weightlifting since he was 12 years and in the eighth year, the momentum original lake was designed around its desire to add extra strength to his hockey game. However, it was an uncle who Powerlifting gives him the tools - plates and bars, a squat rack, and free weights - to create the figure he would eventually boast.
But lifting was an only part of the passion of the lake. Helping people achieve their goals through exercise and diet was the other.
A companion serious physical training, the ISSA (International Association of Sports Sciences) certified Lake has helped men and women throughout the North Shore of Massachusetts - with past jobs at Gold's Gym in Salisbury, Athletic Club of Hamilton, Manchester-by-the-Sea Athletic Club and the North Shore Athletic Club. Lake and his wife even made their way to San Diego, California to form the bold and the beautiful La Jolla - a clientele including the likes of Junior Seau's ex-wife.
Once Lake's wife became pregnant with their first child, the couple decided to return to the East Coast to be closer to family, and after Having worked at two gyms for a while, Lake came to the conclusion that opening his own gym - a specialized in group personal training to a maximum of six people that focuses on increasing strength and fat loss - would be more advantageous to himself, family and clients.
Yet, however, all his time in the gym and a naturally gifted physically presented Lake with a huge backlog, and while working at the Fitness Factory, a lucky few words of encouragement gave Lake the confidence to enter her first competition natural bodybuilding. He failed, but his physique was enough to impress a coach who gave the lake, a panel of more grounded.
Not soon after, the lake came in and won the junior division of the New England Bodybuilding Championship for men under 23, and ranked second in the Open Men's.
With the right genes and the perfect amount of will, Lake became a legitimate bodybuilder. And realistically all it would take for Lake to break into the big time would be to pump a few rounds in his blood, and collect all the prize money welcome and the photo session that would follow.
"I do not feel like it's worth it," said Lake, who enjoys pizza and cream ice when not on his strict brown rice, eggs, chicken, steak and varied diet. "There are too many aisles for your health personal, but in reality it's a personal thing. It is a personal journey for anyone to enter a bodybuilding show, but I just always wanted to be true to myself.
"I have no problem with anybody doing or wanting to steroids, but a "natural bodybuilding competition? That is another story, "said Lake, who explains that the first three aspects of bodybuilding are from last to first, cardiovascular, weight training and nutrition.
Regarding his most recent (a 12-person large class win and a victory that is judged on a combination of posture, symmetry, muscle and leanness) and his prime ranking General first Open men, the lake is small and very pleased with his efforts, the help of her coach, and the backbone of his friends and family.
"It's been 10 years since I started, and I am very happy with the work I put in. It's very exciting to finally reach my goal. I worked hard for it, "said Lake, who prepares to" shred "his body techniques attention of dehydration three days before the competition. "It was all very strict dieting worthwhile in the end."
Veteran in bodybuilding and personal training expert, Salisbury resident Tony Page was helping his friend reach his goal.v "Brent is very disciplined," said Page. "It's a very difficult diet he was on, brutal really, and not once did he complain.
"He has a very great genetics and had refined symmetry to his foot, and because he trained for so long, his muscles are very mature, and he completely dominated the show, "said Page, who said they had started training at 14 weeks. "You can see the muscle in him that nobody was even close to the poster. I am very proud of how hard he works. "
