Some tips for a beginner who wants to learn to meditate and attain nirvana?

I'm confused on what type of posture that I use the case, and if it should be complete, or the nature or meditation sounds silence / songs? For how long and exactly what I do when I meditate? Focusing on one thing or trying to get in touch with Mother Earth? I know these questions sound dumb spirit, but im only 16 and any help would be greatly appreciated:) PS I am ready to go to a Buddhist center / temple to learn things, how do they work exactly? Is there only certain group of persons authorized or can we go? I am Latino I be welcomed? Thank you In my town there is a single Buddhist building and what it is. Http: / / www.mhbcc.org/ What do you think? Should I go? Call?

Fabian, I think going to your local Buddhist center would be a good place to start. It is not easy to go alone at home without any background of how to do it. You will be welcomed to your local Buddhist and I am sure they will have regular meetings where beginners can start learning the techniques of meditation. Our local Friends of the Buddhist Order West has been the case and I started what I learned there were invaluable and I continue to use the meditations I learned there to this day. There are also some good suggestions in the other responses you received. If you try one at home, then sitting position vertically with the spine straight and spend a few minutes of relaxation. You can sit in a chair in an upright position and should not sit cross-legged on the ground unless you find a comfortable position. There should be as few distractions as possible when you're first learning, then the silence is probably the best. Then close your eyes and watch your breath. Simply counting the breath and the breath like a breath. Count to ten years. Then start a new one. If find that you lose an account, just start a new. This is the most basic of meditation, but it is an excellent and you can go a long way. You are in a way that makes all the difference to your life ...... I wish you good luck. Namaste
